I just worked on a 94 eg last week that had the op's problem and it was the dizzy. We just rebuilt it for 40 bucks and the eg was up and running.

i just put in new plugs and a new dizzy yesterday and the plugs are sparking(damn they hurt if you hold them and someone turns the key)

Damn you changed the dizzy and it's still not cranking?? Be sure to check all your connections very well (spark plugs, dizzy wires) and make sure it's getting fuel by popping a fuel line off your fuel filter.
btw have you checked your timing belt lately?
