Default please help with b series tarnny code

my friends tranny is a y80 and we want to know what tranny it is without taking it out. I checked and a y80 is a itr gsr or jdm itr gsr or sir/ctr from 92-00. I remember a site that if u put the tranny or in some cases list all the gears it will tell u the rpm u should be at when in 5th gear at a certain speed. and also we want to know if it has lsd.

That link doesn't even list the Y80.

Y80 is definately a GS-R tranny.

In almost every other case you cannot tell what the gearing is without tearing the tranny apart though. Y80 just happens to only be a GS-R tranny code.

This does NOT mean that all GS-R trannies are Y80 though.

Y80 is always GS-R, but GS-R is not always Y80.

S80 trannies can be either a Type R, GS-R, or even the LS/GS/RS tranny.

No, but the 94-01 Y80/S80 USDM GSR and JDM GSR have same gears, so maybe they just didn't feel it was nescessary to list it on it's own. The Y80 is only LSD if it is from an ITR, or the JDM one. It should have the stamp on the case.

The stamp is on the front, it's a nice size stamp, you can't miss it.

Jack up the front and spin one tire, if the other one spins, you have a LSD.

Here's a pic of the stamp...

I think you are still not getting it.

There are NO Y80 ITR trannies.

ITR will be S80 only, but not all S80 are Type Rs.

And your explanation on how to check for LSD is not correct either.

I spin my driver's wheel on my ITR (LSD) powered Civic and the right wheel spins the other way.

I spin my fiancee's B16A (no LSD) hatch's driver's wheel and the passenger side wheel spins the opposite way just like the LSD car does.

The real way to check for LSD is to look through the diff hole and see if there's a pin in it or not.

If it's an LSD then you should see nothing blocking your view at all.

If it's a non-LSD then you will see a bar going diagonally through the hole.

My ITR tranny most certainly has LSD, but the LSD stamp on the case washed off with a degreaser a long time ago.

I seriously doubt that the Y80 will have an LSD. No USDM Y80 trannies came with LSD (because NO USDM GS-Rs had LSD, and Y80 is a GS-R only number), but the JDM SiR-G (GS-R) did have an option for LSD.

It could be LSD if it's a JDM tranny.
