Please help ASAP. Testing compression on an engine.
How do i test the compression on an engine if it isn't installed in a car.
Where can i buy/rent an engine compression gauge and how much?
I can get two b16a1 engine swaps from a guy that gets them directly from japan for $2200 but he only offers a startup warenty. Just wondering what else, other than compression, to look for when buying these complete swaps.

if the engine aint running there is nothing you can do about it other than "taking the risk"
if you are buying a swap...just check on basic stuff: spark plug condition, oil (if there is any), etc....
Good luck

You should check the oil that is still in the engine, (if any) Look for water, which will apear to be a milky color, if so don't buy...bye. Also smell the oil and any other fluids to check for a burnt smell.
Have fun with your New engine BRA.

You can check the compression if the transmission is mounted onto the motor with the starter installed. Just remove the spark plugs, hold the throttle open, install the compression tester in the spark plug hole, and hook up the battery to the starter. Get the compression value to stabilize, record the reading, and repeat for the the other cylinders.
