Ok, I finally get around to putting this motor together. I start putting the rings on the first one, compress it, tap it in, everything's cool. I move on to the second, and the 1st and 2nd rings don't spin freely in their respective grooves. I manage to rotate them to where they should be, and I go to compress it, and they won't slide into place. I let it go and just move onto another for now. Does the same thing. It's acting like part of the groove is too small, or the ring is too fat. They look fine to the naked eye. I took a .045 feeler gauge and ran it down the 2nd ring groove, and part of it was noticeably larger, part was about the same size, and a little was smaller than the gauge. What should I do? Right now, I can only use one piston and I need to get this motor running before next weekend. They're Nippon P29's with Nippon rings, and, no, they're not on upside down

get new rings? send em back and tell em they dont fit theyll send you new ones... shouldnt be harder than that... tell em u need em fast.

The problem isn't the rings though. The grooves are too thin in spots. They're already pressed into the rods, so removal and return would be costly and time consuming

I just had a problem like that today, had to sand down a little that was a defect in the piston. It was only one though, you seem to have gotten the wrong set of rings though if 3 of yours is like that.

The 4th one is perfect though. And the box and rings are stamped correctly. The ring land just has a very thin spot, as well as a wide spot

Well, I chased the 2nd ring land with my .050" file, concentrating on where it snagged, and now my 2nd rings fit perfectly. I need to find a .045" file to do the top ring land
