Picture request: eg hatch rear seat bracket
I've got a '93 hatch and the center rear seat bracket has been cut off...
My dad is a machinist and can make pretty much anything out of metal, as long as I give him the right measurements for what I need done.
I was hoping someone on here had pictures of the rear seat bracket from all sides that I can give to him so he has an idea of what to make.
I've searched on here and on google and the only thing I can really come up with is a thread by fungus mungus where he bought Mr. Spoons Gathers rear interior and he was installing it (https://honda-tech.com/forums/showth...r+seat+bracket) but there's not really a good picture of it. He made a drawing of it but I'd rather it be as close to stock looking as possible..
Can anyone help me out?
Thanks in advance

Re: Picture request: eg hatch rear seat bracket
I'm still trying to think of a way to mount it. I don't have access to a welder so that's not an option. I was thinking of using bolts but I'm thinking I would have to drop my gas tank to get to the other side...
anyone have any ideas?

I have a friend that probably still has that bracket. It would be cleaner to just drill out the spot welds that hold the remnants of the brackets and install a new one. I'll check back in a little later.

Well, I just checked and he thinks he threw it away. But he will double-check...if he has it, he'll just give it to me. I'll send it to you for the cost of shipping if he still has it.

I just heard back from him...he's got all 3 brackets. Do you need them all, or just the center bracket? I'm going to pick up the brackets at lunch.

just be careful drilling holes. when i bought my car it smelled like hella gas inside the car. turns out someone drilled a hole into the fuel tank to screw that bracket down.

LOL...you'd have to be pretty careless to do that.
Anyway, I just picked up all 3 brackets. The mounting tabs are a little bent up (he didn't take much care taking them off), but they can easily be bent back into place. PM me your shipping address.

Re: Picture request: eg hatch rear seat bracket
Thanks for the heads up, ill have to think of a way to do it to where I won't hit my gas tank. I'd really like to not have to drop it to do this though.

Don't worry about your gas tank...just try not to drill all the way through. If you get a proper spot-weld cutting bit, you won't go through at all.

Re: Picture request: eg hatch rear seat bracket
How would you recommend I mount the one you're sending me, since I don't have access to a welder?

Uh...that's a good question...if you can't weld it in place, you're gonna need to drop your gas tank, drill all the way through the floor and bolt it in place. You'll want nice thick washers on the back side so that the floor doesn't tear through. Don't just try to bolt it to a hole you drilled in the sheet metal...that's a lot of weight to support, especially with someone sitting in the seat. That sheet metal isn't very thick.
The other way you could do it is use a nutsert. It works on the same principle as a wall anchor does for hanging pictures. You drill a hole, insert the nutsert, run a bolt in the nutsert and it tightens against the back of the sheetmetal. You won't have to drop the tank for that, but you will have to be careful not to drill too deep so you don't hit the tank. Most car dealers have a tool for installing these, so you could take it to a dealer and pay them to do it once you get the bracket sorted out.

The other thing you could do is take your car to a muffler shop and have them spot weld it for you. Takes like 5 minutes, if that. They probably wont' charge much to do it...probably even less than a dealer will charge to install nutserts. Just make sure you take the remnants of the old bracket off first...otherwise the seat back height will be wrong.

The kid I grew up with down the road, his dad rebuilds old Fords. Last I heard, he had a '32 ford coupe that he was redoing the floor in and he cut the old floor out and replaced it, so I'm sure he has a welder.
