Painting Honda Valve Cover... Need Suggestions
Hey guys, I have been browsing this site for a while, and finally I decided to join.
Anyways, I am in need of some help... My 1.6 SOHC Valve Cover for my Civic (Ya I know it's only an SOHC ) is gettin' pretty ugly right now, and I want to paint it a Silver color.
I found this Engine Bay pic somewhere while browsing the net.
I would like to get it as close as I can to that, and I dont think I want to go to a shop and chrome it.
Just wondering if anyone here has gone thru the process, what kind of paint would you recommend, advice, and is there anything else I should know?
Thanks a lot!

Well, first you need to buy the turbo.....
Take off the valve cover and clean the **** out of it. If it's not spic and span, the paint will probably look like **** and probably won't stick very well
Edit: That valve cover looks like it might just be polished

It look like that valve cover is chrome plated so if you don't want to go that route, I would say get it powdercoated. I know they have a similar color that makes it look like chrome.

well, i painted my wire cover thing a color very similar to that, but remember that youll end up having that new cover looking really crappy when it gets even a slight amount of dirt on it.
if you really wanna paint it though, definately remember to clean it off REALLY well before you paint it. i always try and sand it up a bit (slow dremel speed) and maybe even a thin coat of primer for optimal bonding. oh yeah and take a before and after shot too!

If you just cleaned it really well I bet it would probably look decent. If you are hell-bent on painting it though, i suggest you get high quality high temp paint cause all my friends that tryed to paint their valve covers had it melt off.

Looks polished to me. When I actually drove my car daily I had the my valve cover ( that exact one ) polished to a mirror shine. Lots of different steps in sandpaper and lots of polishing can do wonders. After sitting for about 2 years off and on it looks like ****. Time to do some more work
