I have a turbo d16z6, my car's temp gauge goes past the middle to 3/4 when cruising about 55-70 mph for few mins. I turn the heat on asap at full blast, the temp gauge drops back down to normal which is 1/2 way up the temp gauge.

When driving local, I do not get this overheating problem. I changed the coolant one month ago, thinking it was the old coolant efficiency, but that is not the case. This happened for the first time I drove when it was raining and i had my ac on. Can someone diagnose this problem, thanks in advance!!!

right now i have the same problem too. i was driving from california to illinois and before i left california i had the car overheat. the whole trip i was scared that the car was going to break down. i don't know if its my thermostat, my coolant, or my radiator itself (if its clogged internally). is there a way to check the radiator itself, cause i have ran a hose through it trying to clean it. i have the same symptoms as you too.

this problem arised after installing turbo though....when it was n/a, i did not have this problem, altho i hardly drive that long of a distance. my coolant level is the same if that helps anyone diagnose...

This is my list of your possible problems.

-Radiator fan is not coming on
-Bad Thermostat
-You never bled the system right
-Headgasket.
-Tiny *** radiator on a turbo setup

shouldnt be the fan since I see both of them turning on at times when i open up the hood.

had to have bled the system right since it was like this b4 i changed coolant and it doesnt overheat when i am stuck in traffic for 20 mins.

when changing coolant, not a single drop of oil mixed in, so HG s/be ok.


thermostat, i am not sure y it would not open at hiway cruising vs. local driving???
tiny radiator might be another reason, not sure, but no leaks that is definite.

anyone experiencing this problem before??

i had the same problem,

try this:
1.while car is cool, open the radiator cap,
2. then run the car untill its just about warm/this should bring up any bubbels in the system.

also to check the coolant level if for some reasion there was one day coolant and now suprise theres not there could have been or there is a bubbel


ohhhh yeah for all the people that aren't so "common sence smart".....if it starts to bubbel up out of the radiator.......stop what you are doing .......take your head out of your ***......... and turn your car off

Thats what it sounds like, since its overheating during constant drive at higher speeds.
Its also possible that your radiator is not in the best shape. Maybe if cooled well enough to handle the stock motor, but now that its boosted it cant keep up.
You might get away with replacing it with a new stock radiator, but why not use this opportunity to upgrade.

Hey, that was how i bled the system..as well as turning heat on at hi...cap off when coolant is bubbling for few mins too....

You might want to install a heat shield between the radiator and the turbo. I have a fluidine integra radiator on my turbo civic (4x the stock capacity) and I can still overheat.

Do i just get a aluminum piece and bolt it somewhere to cover turbo from radiator???

well i have only owned my car for about three weeks now, when i drive it around city driving and traffic the temperature is a little be below normal. when i get to highway speeds for a bit the car starts to over heat. i will try to do that burping procedure when i get a chance and i will check to see if my thermostat is opening and closing.

kind of hard to pull out of traffic to chk the hoses which s/be burning hot w/ the rest of the engine....

More like, the coolant finally has somewhere to circulate through...

Yes, thats what happens when I turn up the heat! so i have to get a thermostat then, but how come it doesn't overheat during normal driving or in traffic?? thanks.

Guys, how do your hoses ususally feel when the car has reached operating temperature. Are they pretty stiff from pressure or waht?

Did you turn on your heater full blast when you bled the system? There could be air bubbles trapped in the heater core.

Did you open the bleeder screw to get the air out on the front of the block OR the thermostat?

Did you check the bottom rad hose to see if it is HOT, this means the thermostat is opening?

it was on full blast, definitely should not have air in the system....

will chk bottom of rad hose this wkend to see if temp is same as the top...

Just checked the rad hose to compare and both were really hot..
