Re: opinions on OBX camshafts (kaiba)
this should be a testament to OBX quality...
4 years ago I had an OBX short shifter and one day it snapped off during a hard 1st-2nd shift. the shaft wasnt even welded onto the "ball" fitting at the bottom of the shifter...it was attached only by the fake *** chrome plating on it.
OBX = teh suck.

I have heard awesome stuff about the Comp/Zex cams, in fact I have a Stage 2 for my D16y8 being installed next week. I have also heard good things about Crane Cams...

people break DC sports and Skunk2 shifters as well... so skunk2 cams suck too i guess?

i've heard good things about zex, cower, and crane, i would give the zex a try, they're fairly cheap and i hear they perform real well, also, as i was told, anything stage 2 or over, upgrade your springs, retainers, and maybe even valves also.

I had a set of Crower 63403's that snapped on me, but that was back in the day.... You can't get any better than stock... find some CTR's, buy the springs/retainers maybe a new intake mani and get it tuned. If you've got some ectra $$$ and you're gonna rev hard, upgrade your timing belt to a Toda or equiv.

Unless any of you have ever used OBX cams in your car...then you shouldn't have anything to say or add to this topic in voicing your opinion about how they suck. Manufacturing a short shifter is one thing...manufacturing cams is a completely different process. I suggest anyone reading this topic take a look at the following links:

There's a few HT members that have been running the OBX cams for awhile, w/out any problems.
The only problem I have with them, is the material they're made of,
forged billet 4130 chrome moly steel may put excessive wear on the rockers.

i think there is probably a general consensus that skunk2 has a better reputation for quality than OBX.
my point was that after my shifter incident i would certainly not buy a set of camshafts made by them. and it just so happpened that i replaced the broken OBX shifter with a skunk2 shifter. if that had also broken then i'd probably have second thoughts about using anymore skunk2 products also.

thanx for all the input guys....i do have ctr cams....the guy i bought the motor from had them n threw them into the deal......i am upgrading my whole valve train. i just emailed TODA n asked if they have a whole valve train kit for the b16. if they do i will probably go for that n get their stage 3 cams and adjustable cam gears. i need to make my mind up soon tho so i can get this build under way.
thanx again guys

obx isnt crap, they have come a long way, the reason they can sell their stuff so cheap is because they steal designs plain and simple

Dont go cheap. I bought the @$%!#$ coil over supension from them. First, the rear struts don't go down more than 1.5" from original height. Second, the very FIRST time I tried adjusting the shock sitffnes ment leaving the car stuck in SCCA type stiffness forever because the Q$%@#$ adjusting nuts broke.

OBX exhaust, and OBX cam gear.
No problem at all. I'm considering an OBX LSD too. OBX HAS come a long way. I would take a full sponsorship from them

Re: (CRXDrew)
get OEM ITR or CTR cams theyre nearly identical. with good tuning these are proven to make as much power as Toda B Spec cams. Or if you got $$, go for JUN Type-2. Those make more power out of the bunch. Dont know bout Skunk2 but i dont think theyre that bad at all.
nvm i just read lol. wow you already have cams and you want stage 3's? hardcore haha. i say go for JUN. if you want more power do some porting, and hondata tuning

Oh well...I have an OBX exhaust...and it's done me fine for the last year and a half. I will be sporting their stage 2's in my H23/Vtec this summer...and stage 1's in my gf's JDM H22 prelude. You can't even get used Skunk2 cams for the price the OBX's are. And they have been dyno proven to match skunk2's of the same stage as well as last 5k miles with no wear on the valvetrain.
If any of you have been around the scene long enough...skunk2 used to have the same OBX kind of reputation about 4 or so years ago when they were Skunkworks. So that just goes to show the improvement a manufacturer can make in a short time.
