Default Okay, H-T....I've done just about it all....still surging.

Alright Honda Tech'ers....I've done all the searching and I've also gotten alot of advice from the members here, but my car still bucks and surges when cruising in any mph for a period of time.

I notice it happening right about 3200 rpm and the tach will drop right to 1k and then pop back up to 3200rpm's but if I give it more gas, it will clear out.

I've replaced plugs, wires, cap&rotor, fuel filter, pcv valve, seafoamed the motor, added lucas fuel injector cleaner, and I also got rid of the ebay special muffler and got a stock exhaust back on. The car still has the mickey moused intake.....

but I'm out of ideas....I got the car scanned and there are no codes, I thought it could be the o2 sensors....but everyone says that my car will throw a CEL before it goes out...

please help honda tech!

oh yeah, it's a 97 Honda Civic LX Sedan with a D16Y7.

SK, it's a D16Y7.

I was told by another member on here that the IAC wouldn't cause the bucking and surging at highway speeds.

as for the map sensor, what's that and where is it?

could it be the FITV (fast idle throttle valve)? would that cause surging at about 3500rpm cruising at 75mph on the highway???

Might be the fuel injectors themselves going out... or even something with the fuel pressure regulator... or fuel pump.

Take the injectors to be cleaned up, rebuilt, and flow tested. It'll cost about $25 each. I swapped the injectors out on my dual point 89 civic 2 das ago and it cleared up my surging after a cold start.

took it up to the stealership and they said that my fuel system is fine, nothing is wrong with pressure or leaking injectors.

I got on the road again this morning and the car will buck and surge right around 3500-3700 rpm once the motor is warm and it won't do it all the time just every now and then....but I'd say for my 80mile commute, at least 7-8 times throughout the ride.

could it be my dizzy? I already replaced the cap&rotor.

On my Jeep, when it bucked and surged...it turned out to be the o2 sensor and my jeep never clicked off the CEL...but once I replaced the o2's....it ran just fine.

So if I'm gonna replace the o2, I heard the bottom o2 actually does nothing, and only the top one does? is this correct? can I get away with only replacing one instead of both?

this surging on the highway is starting to get on my nerves...because I've done all I can think of and it's not going away

i still think its the IAC, im having a similar issue once the car warms up it will idle weird and sometimes stall if i dont keep my foot on the gas. im going to replace the iac, it seems to be causing the issue. i cleaned it out with carb cleaner and it helped but didnt totally solve it.

I just spoke with a honda technician and he said that it could very well be my catalytic converter that is causing me all my problems as it could be clogged which is giving me the poor power output and the surging at highway speeds, but it's not rattling....and I just found out a replacement cat is $489!!! is that right?!

I was told an aftermarket would not work on my stock system???

please advise on this!
