Default oil pressure gauge install ques

Correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't the factory oil pressure sender vary current based on oil pressure? And doesn't the sending unit supplied with an electrical oil press. gauge do the same thing? If so, I'd rather just omit the wire going to the dashboard light and use that voltage as my sender signal to the gauge. I'd preferentially do it this way as I already have an oil feed teeing off for my turbo and wanted to avoid having three outputs. Has anyone done this before?

Thanks,
Andrew
