Default Painting over carbon fiber

So I was just wondering if it is possible to paint over your carbon fiber parts? If it's possible how does it turn out and would the paint crack or anything? LMK

prep it the same as you would metal and you should be fine... things like cf hoods can still crack because tehy are flexable to some extent

it's just like painting over fiberglass. It's all in the prepping.

I am pretty sure you can still buy flexable primer. it has a bit of give to it. google it.

I don't really know.. but I'd assume you could strip it off all the same... you'd need a new clear-coat of course but..

If you are trying to block out the cabon fiber completely, nevermind in advance. But if you have ever looked at an Enzo Ferrari, you can still see the carbon fiber through the paint. I think that looks pretty cool, but the car still is painted how you want. Just my .02

Doing this right now with an EVO wing for my buddy.

It is a pain, cause half is already nicely done. So I have to go very slow around the pre-existing clear coat, as not to sratch it.

Pretty much get a stipper, stip the paint off...sand all remaining off, I started with a 150 grit, 320, 800, 1500...The 150 leaves some gouges, but 320, and wet sanding with the 800 get rid of it very nciely. Getting it clear coated by a pro...

Should look good ocen he gets his CF trunk on. The *** end will be like a CF honeycomb.

to paint, first wet sand the surface to be painted with 600 grit. wet sand the remaining area not to be painted with 2000 grit. make sure everything has a dull surface. for painted area apply primer to help adhesion, then base coat. Clear coat the entire hood.

To remove paint wet sand with 600 grit. then buff the hood with an adjustable speed buffer (not orbital) with 3m rubbing compound. The rubbing compound will remove the dullness and bring it back to a shine. Finish off with a glazing compound.
