Downpipe doesnt HAVE to be off, but it gives way more room to work. A few 10mm bolts (i believe its 10mm ) and your in business.

Re: oil pan removal (cool_junk)
anyone know how many bolts/nuts are holding up the oil tank? Seems a little tight to get to those bolts/nuts with the downpipe on.. even off?

Pull the downpipe and just un-bolt the bolts, it just drops down, no catches. Just remove it level or you'll spill the oil (or drain the oil first). The other thing you just gotta worry about is the oil pan gasket tearing, might wanna replace it b4 putting it back on - I would.
Might need a lil pry with a screwdriver if it's never been removed. No catches, just unbolt the downpipe (or the header if you have a 4-1 one piece aftermarket header) and unbolt the bolts around the pan - and drop it down. Simple as that.

Re: (Syndacate)
Another option would be to unbolt the header and unhook the two hangers on the exhaust pipe. Doing this will enable you to lower the exhaust system enough to get at the oil pan bolts/nuts. I would definately recommend installing a new oil pan gasket as they are cheap from Honda and would save potential leak issues in the future.
