oil leaking onto header HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the motor has been running great but for some reason we have been chasing an oil leak for about 6 months now. the car is leaving a mess every place it it left. after about 15 min. of driving the on the street and highway the car will SMOKE from underneath the hood, people look at us funny and the cops have given us a few warnings, LOL. the oil is clearly leaking onto the header and onto the ground. i have just finished replacing the oil pan gasket foe the second time and drove the car around a matter of minutes ago...and the new gasket seems to not have any effect on this leak issue, now i'm pissed
could this problem be me over tightening the pan? (which i thought i was sure to NOT do)
could it be the rear main seal leaking onto the header?
even with gasker seal could the pan not be sealed?
i don't ask for much...but this time i'm stumped and the last thing i want to do is send the car to the shop and admit a loss to the car lol

did you check the filter? Sometimes when its removed, I hear the gasket falls off the filter and stays on the engine and when there are 2 gaskets on the filter, it causes a leak (info from my auto teacher like a year ago). Check your filter, that might be the leak...just throwing up some ideas.

Re: (jeffk182)
hmm that could be possible...but it seems fo be coming from the lower-center portion of the motor...i just put a new filter on it and it seemed to go on fine but i'll check that though, thanks

Indeed, check the oil filter. The rubber gasket around the filter sometimes falls off, and you don't notice, but it's still left on the housing of the oil filter. So, when you tighten the filter on, it doesn't seal properly and causes a leak.
IMO, clean the entire area REALLY REALLY good and start the car. Wait under the car and check EXACTLY where it's originating from.

clean up this area and run the motor, if it is leaking right between there, most chances are that its ur rear main seal

Im bettin its the oil filter, put a new one on, spray off the back of the engine with brake cleaner until its all clean, top off the oil and you should be fine.

Re: oil leaking onto header HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (TurboCoop)
Crank seals? I think mine are leaking, as I only get drips from either end of the oil pan, and too, have redone the pan gasket twice.
