odd tranny problem? help

odd tranny problem? help
ok so if i get it into first i can shift through gears just fine 1st through 5th but then say i take it out of 5th it kinda sticks in the neuatral area and you have to move it up and down in the central neautral area to get it back over to first. its like its sticking. i checked the shift linkage messed around with it everything seems ok.
where the shift pin goes the rod that sticks out....is it suppose to move at all to the left and right it has a little play in it. let me know what you guys think thanks
