No cannot splice the 4 wire. You will either buy a new engine harness to fit that 4...or HAVE to get the single CX one.

first off which ECU are you running? P06 or P05? (printed on the side of the ECU)
that will tell you which O2 you need.
If you have a P05, I'd suggest getting a P06 so you are running your engine correctly. As far as the O2 on a P05... simply take your four wire O2, connect the white wire to the white wire on your harness, and the green wire of the O2 to any ground. (the thermostat ground would be ideal)
If you have a P06 then you're going to have to tell me which wires you have at the O2 and we can go from there.
reason:
P05 requires only the O2 signal
P06 requires O2 signal and O2 heater
that will tell you which O2 you need.

Re: (Relic1)
this car came with a p28 in it. not chipped. I have 3 cel the 21,22 for vtec (which i am not sweating right now) and the o2 sensor code. My harness does have the one white wire. could i still go about it by splicing the one white wire from the 4 wire o2 sensor or does the p28 look for the o2 heater signal? Thanx for all the info so far heading in the right direction. i juss can't stand the gas mileage w/o the o2 and plus they will not pass my car for inspection so trying to get this fig out. without paying the $188 for the one wire o2

your best bet would be to pick up a P06, that will get rid of your CEL for the VTEC solinoind and VTEC pressure switch. They are not that much $$ if you look around a little. (~$30-40)
as for the P06 requiring the four wire O2, yes it does.
the white wire is the white wire on the O2. the green goes to ground.
The two black wires on the O2... it doesn't matter which you pick, one runs to the yellow/black wires at the driver's shock tower, the other needs to be run to the ECU pin A6.

yes, but you're going to have the 2 CELs.
it all depends on when you have to pass inspection.

Re: (Relic1)
yes i know that i am going to have #21 vtec spool solinoid, and #22 vtec pressure valve. I am only needing saftey so they are not going to say anything about the cel they just told me i needed a o2 sensor. so i can use my p28 and use the 4 wire o2 sensor all i have to do is splice the white wires together ground the one wire run one wire to the shock tower and one to the a6 ecu plug???? (pics wounld be GREAT)also i found a one wire o2 sensor on ebay the link provided by JayKayNidas could i just buy this one and cut off the plug on my wiring harness and wire these two wires together??

if you purchased the one in JayKayNidas's link, since you're running a P28 you will have O2 heater CEL.
the white wire is the white wire on the O2.
the green goes to ground. (thermostat ground)
The two black wires on the O2... it doesn't matter which you pick,
one runs to the yellow/black wires at the driver's shock tower,
