Re: Castrol Syntec..good or bad? (Casinbean)
Honestly, any decent 5W-30 oil will perform fine for your needs. SYNTEC is serious overkill, but if you want to spend the extra money on it, that's up to you.

Re: Castrol Syntec..good or bad? (Casinbean)
no real point.
pour it on an allready slick floor. Run at it at full speed. if you fall, it's good oil. that's my scientific view.
seriously, though. Synthetic oil is kinda overkill for that.

there is nothing fancy about your motor, why spend the extra cash on synthetic.
conventional oil will be fine. you've been watch the castrol commercial where the dodge charger blows up, haven't you.
don't worry, your motor is safe. that will not happen to you.

i know you didn't think that, it was a joke. but on a serious note, you don't need to spend more than needed on a oil change. as expensive as oil and oil based product are now a days, conventional oil will do fine.

Its really up to you if you want to spend a little extra for synthetic bro. I run 5w30 mobil 1 full synthetic on my y8 (bone stock w/ drop in k/n filter). From switching to regular motor oil to synthetic, i honestly did feel a difference in smoothness and acceleration. Its not something to brag about though, overall i'm happy with the outcome. Keep in mind, once you throw in synthetic oil you'll always have to use only synthetic oil. I can't explain why but i'm sure other HT members can clear that up for you.

actually i don't need anyone to clear anything up. i understand the difference between the 2 oils. the op wanted a opinion and all i did was provode him with one. he actually has the final desicion.
is it needed on a stock motor? no.
is you noticing the difference all in your head? yes.

You must have a very well-calibrated butt dyno. I'd be surprised if there were any sort of repeatable gains to be seen on a real dyno either, but if you're happy with the choice, it won't hurt to stick with it.

That's a long-running myth that simply isn't true. You can switch back to convention anytime you want with no ill effects.

As for the difference, i honestly did feel a difference. It may be just my opinion but i stand by it.

That's fine, but you stated that you felt a difference in acceleration, which would have to indicate that power was somehow increased.

haha i said "i honestly did feel a difference in smoothness and acceleration". I never stated any hp numbers or any kind. I'm pretty sure i'm not getting 1/2 hp or anything of that sort.
A difference does mean some sort of increased hp, i totally agree with that. I just never meant it in that way. If i offended anybody i'm sorry haha
