NOW WHAT????? (detailed pics inside)
I was trying (for the second time now) to put the H&R's on today, I got the right rear on like a piece of cake. I got the left rear strut out, compressed the spring, then this happened:
Now what the fu*k am I supposed to do? This is frustrating... second attempt, second failure. At least the RR will handle the corners better until I figure this out...

You stripped out the notch, eh?
Here's a cheater's tip: cut a notch in the upper part of that threaded shaft - I suggest using an air cutter. Once it's wide enough to handle a relatively large screwdriver, you're golden. Use steel wool to clean out the thread grooves so the nut doesn't jam when you reinstall things.
Good luck. That blows

Because when you become as frustrated as I'm sure you are, it's hard to flex your problem solving muscles . You'll be fine, just take your time and do it right.

If you now someone who has air tools, they can get it off. Happened to me before, but I just pulled out the saw and cut the top part of the shaft off and bought a new strut.

Re: (Archidictus)
I have access to air tools, but I have to get that strut there... it's my only one. I'm going to pick up a new strut for it tomorrow because it's worse than I let on. I put vise grips on the main shaft part knowing full well what would happen... and it did. I'm an idiot for getting frustrated and doing that, but it happens. There's no point in being angry over it now.

Re: (CycloneBlue_1.6EL)
take a pair of vise grips, and put it on the top of the strut so it doesnt spin. thats what i always do anyways. then take the nut off. put the vise grips at the VERY top of the shaft.

same thing happened to me. I took a slightly larger hex key and hammered it in. I have bullshit springs and blown shocks though, so I didn't really care if it comes apart again or not.

Re: (Spugen_y0)
Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm going to pick up two used rear struts from an SiR today from the guy I'm buying my alternator from. Then I'm going to stop at my old work and get those bitches loose with the impact gun.
