Noises Make Me Mad
Ok guys, I have a noise coming from what sounds like the inside of the engine bay, but can't tell sometimes. I have a brand new cat, a 2 year old Tanabe exhaust, and year old DC 4-1 Header (It's a little dinged up, but no leaks)
Here are some things that I have noticed:
1. When I rev it normally, no noise (should pretty much cancel it being an exhaust issue)
2. If I rev it higher with the foot to the floor it makes it for a brief second. (I used a smoke machine in the exhaust to see if there were any leaks, and none. Also have a brand new cat, still same problem.)
3. I don't hear the noise all of the time, but when the noise is present, if you are giving more than half throttle, it starts. It sounds like something is spinning and hitting something.
I honestly think it sounds like my flywheel may be loose or something? I have an Exedy Clutch with Fidanza Flywheel. They were put in 2.5 years ago.
I put in a D16A6 cam and the noise continued after that as well. Could it be my valves or valve springs?
I just wanna know because it only does it sometimes and it sounds bad.
So is it the resonator? Muffler? Flywheel? Tranny bearing? Engine Internals?
It sounds like metal grinding.
/rant
Thanks.

Re: Noises Make Me Mad (ekpunker)
I don't have any. I took them all off thinking it was that.
Any other ideas?
I REALLY think it is the header. It is coming from that area. I just revved it a bit and it is coming from the header/cat area. I have a brand new cat so it can't be the issue. (shouldn't be at least)
The bottom of the header is scraped up, but isn't leaking. It has a huge dent in it though.
Could it be making a weird noise during certain times?

Re: Noises Make Me Mad (Del Sex)
Checked all the bolts, all tight and torqued accordingly on the header.
Still no luck.
Could it still be the header due to the dent?

i dont know, but that noise sounds scary.
would suck taking of the tranny for nothing....would also suck to not take it off and gradually destroy something.
ugh for you.

Re: Noises Make Me Mad (Del Sex)
lay down next to your car and start slapping/shaking your resinator and see if the steel mesh inside is loose .. recently on my exaust the fiberglass inside apparently blew out and the welds on the mesh broke so now it rattles around a bit at certain points
if not maybe a axle?
try this jack up the front of your car and USE JACKSTANDS make shure your car wont fall, pull the e brake and start the car put it in first and with the hood up look around with it rolling at idle in midair and see if u knotice anything.
hope one of these metods helps u .. good luck
