Default No start, 2000 civic

I am working on my cousins civic. If you turn the ignition to start you dont get any power at the ign. side of the solenoid. I first thought that it was the neutral safety switch because when you turn the ignition to the "on" position the the gear "D4" and "park" remain illuminated for about two seconds. Once the main relay clicks and the Check engine light turns off the "D4" light turns off also.

I checked the neutral/safety switch and everything has continuity when it needs to. I found that the "D4" wire runs into the the main relay harness. I took the relay cover off and it smelled burnt. I checked the resistance across the field windings on both relays, the 4V one had continuity but the 12V one didnt have continuity.

Another note, I get voltage from the ignition switch in the start position when I need to, I checked all the fuses and everything else appears normal. I have until monday to maybe get some input before I go buy the main relay. Since the stupid dealership parts dept. closes early on saturday and closed sunday

Just wondering if any of yall have had a problem similar to this and if you had any other suggestions.....I think I am on the right track but never really worked on Hondas. Thanks for reading through the long post

Josh

I can only tell you, no cont = trash, I'm sure you know that.

Replace the relay and try again.

Yeah I planned on replacing the Relay. Just wondering if I was overlooking anything else. Everything I have read on main relay malfunctions is more towards fuel pump operations but the "D4" wire from the neutral/safety switch runs into the same relay.

im me if you wanna know how to test your main relay.

did you have the tranny out or something or did this happen out of the blue cause if it happened out of the blue then that is not the problem (neutral switch)

so you have no crank?(the car does not turn over?) check for engine grounds and battery voltage

grounds by thermostat housing
tranny to body
negitive battery terminal
valve cover

does the car have a alarm check the ignition kill is disabled

to check the main relay simply remove the distributor cap and check if the coil has power on both the positive and negitve side of the coil. if it does then crank the car over and see if the negitive terminal on the coil flickers (use a test light.)

also take one injector clip out and gound it out and attack a test light in between the light should flicker when you crank the car over

if both of these two things dont happen then your main relay is gone.

I cant IM you because I am new.

Yeah I know its not the Neutral/Safety switch because everything tests out okay on it.

Yeah it happened out of the blue. My cousin said she parked it last night and it wouldnt start this morning.

Things I know:

*Battery is fully charged
*Neutral/Safety switch tests good
*Ignition switch good, adjusted correctly
*Just ohmed out the grounds and they are good.

Symptoms:

*Starter will not crank (No voltage to start wire)
*Both the "park (P)" & "Drive (D4)" lights illuminate on instument panel when ignition is turned on.
*The D4 light turns off when check engine light turns off. Leaving on the park(p) light illuminated

Thanks for the help
