Default No spark issue...Tried everything!!

I have a 1996 honda civic hx coupe 5 speed. That ran great.

I pulled the engine and tranny and replaced the clutch. Put it back together and no it will not get spark.

The distributor has power up to the harness. Inside the dizzy as well (After testing with a voltmeter I managed to shock the **** out of my self lol)

So the distributer, plugs and wires on my brother civic starts his car fine.

My ecu in his car starts it fine

His ecu and 3 other dizzys in my car and no spark.

Also a code reader works on his but will not connect to my car.

When I bump start the car I can get the original dizzy to show spark on a plug for one second sometimes but not enough to even start the car.

All my interior lights exterior lights still work, Fuses so far look good under the hood and main ones related to ignition or ecu interior wise

I checked and all my grounds under the hood are good. I looked and all the harness plugs seem to be plugged in right

IS there anything any one can think of that could be causing my dizzy to not give spark?

The last thing I can think to try is pull the engine and start over and inspect the harness? Maybe I pinched a wire that relates to the dizzy? Its just weird a code reader wont work on it either

Its a hitachi dizzy if that matters

so your issue is spark for sure.
your plugs in good shape?
firing order correct?
are you positive both grounds are back on and on clean surface?
weak battery? try jumping it from another car to see if you spark changes.
i would consider ecu fuse but that doesnt control spark but fuel.

]so your issue is spark for sure. YES
your plugs in good shape? YES AND TESTED GOOD IN ANOTHER CAR
firing order correct?
are you positive both grounds are back on and on clean surface? YES. I AM GOING TO RECHECK SURFACE AREA TODAY FOR CLEAN CONTACT
weak battery? try jumping it from another car to see if you spark changes. TRIED JUMPING AND ALSO ANOTHER GOOD BATTERY AND NO DIFFERENCE
i would consider ecu fuse but that doesnt control spark but fuel.

Thanks for the reply! I did try it being jumped and also used the battery from my brothers civic last night.

Its just driving me crazy that my ecu, dizzy, plugs, wires work in his car but not mine.

Grounds are all on. Today I am going to clean and sand and reconnect them and see if I get anything.

When I am testing with the spark plug on the valve cover method I get spark every few attempts of trying to start for a split second but that's it

It cranks but doesn't start, or it won't crank at all?

Check power in the engine bay fusebox.

What are the voltage reading for the Blk/Yel wire at the coil and ICM?

Did you Ohm test the Yel/Grn wire for an open or short?

I get 11.something Volts at that wire (Sorry cant remember exactly )

I did not get to ohm testing as I just swapped the dizzy into my brothers car and it gave spark and started and drove his car fine.

That would be interesting........because you stated that you couldn't pull codes with a code reader. Is your cel light coming on during startup procedures?

This is what I found interesting as well

I cannot tell if it is on because it looks like a faint glow but when I turn the key to the off position that glow goes off. My brothers car has a check engine light on (Prior to putting my dizzy in his car) and it is much brighter so its hard to tell.

This could be an ecu issue, can you swap ecu with your bros?

The fact The when I take the spark plug out and ground it and start the car repeatedly and will occasionally get it to spark for a second makes me think that there is a bad ground somewhere between the ecu and the dizzy?

But I am not sure what other grounds to check

Turned out the ground on the thermostat even tho it looked good was not grounding properly (Tested with meter) so I sanded it down and the car started.

Go figure. Thanks for all the input guys

You would have found that the fuel pump also did not prime. In the future, always check for both spark and fuel when the engine won't start. This will speed you to the solution.

<p>For that particular ground, the CEL also wouldn't have come on for ~2 seconds when you first turned the key to ON(II). &nbsp; This, ladies and gents, is why we do full and proper diagnostics.</p>
