NO HEAT SHIELD
Im in an EX coupe, and my heat shield rusted through at the spot welds. I hit a manhole cover yesterday, and I heard it scraping on the ground, so I pulled over. Sure enough, it was hanging by the back welds, so I slithered under the car and kicked that **** off.
NOW I have no heat shield. And no muffler (soon I will have a tailpipe though.)
Has anyone had any problems with driving without a heat shield?
Thanks guys!

you're fine, after a while they do rust out and are pretty much garbage at that point. if you want you can always hit up a salvage yard and get a used one, clean it up and paint it. then there is always the dealer if you want a brand new one, but they are not necessary, especially if you plan on getting a header.

Re: NO HEAT SHIELD (philosofy1)
I do plan on getting a header - probably a 4-1 ebay or somesuch. I read on an all engine SOHC thread that they put out pretty good numbers (like +10whp from stock?)
anyway... So the worst that will happen is I'll burn some leaves on the road? or my car will catch? Is that behind the firewall, or in front......... j/k I dont' want to lite my car...
Any thoughts on the danger aspect?

10whp MAYBE on a good day, along with a good intake and full exhaust.
Your fine tho, no need to worry about the heatshield, its not crucial to your motor.

I have a cherry bomb hanging from coat hangers now....i know, redneck...but its temp until the weather warms up for me.
hey, it was CHEAP and its actually very quiet. Sounds stock, except when I rev it up.
CHERRY BOMB FTW!!! lmao
