Allright, I know very little about honda's but I just picked up a 92 honda civic dx with a bad ecu. It's a p28 and while the original number ended in L00 I think the new one is like A01...the guy at the auto wrecker told me it should work or might just need to be reset by the dealer. I'm just wondering if this is true, and is it expensive to reset it?

I think the L00 was from an auto ECU and the A01 is from a 5spd.

I don't know why you're running a P28 though. Thats a ECU from 92-95 Ex/Si

DX ECU is a P06.

Seems like someone switched it out, p28 only came in SI/EX models, your's should've came with a po5/po6 forgot which one it was. As far as the A01 goes, I pretty sure its a obd2 ecu which won't work for your application. The one that you really need is the p05 or the p06, which are for Civic's without vtec. But for better response you need to give more details on what's wrong with the car.

yes yes...p06 is actually it, sorry, all this searching and p28 just got stuck in my head. This time i actually got off my lazy *** and got the actual numbers. The original was 37820-p06-L00...the replacement is 37820-p06-AO1. The previous owner let it sit for a week after multiple starting attempts and drained the battery, so I tried starting it with a jump and that didn't work. I'm going to put in a good battery and try that, then I guess I'll call honda and ask about the reset thing the wrecking yard guy was talking about.

Sorry to bump this again, but I guess what my question is is whether or not the numbers have to match up exactly or whether as long as you get the ecu for a civic dx with a manual transmission then it will work. Thanks for your guys' help

look all you need to do is put in the p06 which is OBD 1 not OBD2 and if you put it in and its auto you'll get a check engine light(CEL) and it will be 19 so thats alll you gots to do!

No. As long as its a untampered (not chipped by someone or anything) P06 it should be all good.
