Default New to forum, question about b16a swap w/ Helms.

Hey everyone, I'm new here. I've been reading for a while here and have learned a great deal already, and have just decided to join. Now, I'm going to buy an EG within the next couple of months, then a b16a. From what I have read it is a direct bolt in, but I had a few questions regarding that. I planned on buying the Helms manuals. I'm guessing I need one for the EG and one for the car that the b16a came out of ( civic si??). Is this a wise choice, to get them both? Also which Helms should I follow to connect the vacuum diagrams, etc.? since the engine is from a different car is it still a direct swap of lines, etc? Sorry if my questions are unclear, hopefully you can understand. Thanks in advance!!

Get both manuals. It will be a big help if you do a lot of your own work.

sounds good to me. Another 2nd gen. would also include a Del Sol VTEC (B16A3). THere are numerous sites that list step by step on how to swap motors...the one most people use for reference is hybrid.honda-perf.org. Try that man!

cool, thanks a lot for the fast replies! Still wondering something. Sorry for the unclear questions, but should the connections from the EG chassis to the b16a be the same as the stock motor in the EG? Because I know to get both Helms, but when it comes down to connecting it all, which to follow??

Do you mean the motor mounts or the wiring harness? If you mean the mounts then yes they will bolt to your existing mounts. If you mean the wiring harness, then not necessarily. if you have an OBD II motor it will require and OBD II to OBD I jumper harness.

Or U can cut and rewire, but there are like 50-something wires...not worth the headaches! SPend like $200 something for the jumper harness from Skunk2. Thats just the ECU side of the harness under the glovebox, but as for the engine side, from what I understand, plugs will fit fine from any EG onto an OBD-II (96-up motors), you will just have a few plugs on the motor that will be left unused, cause of less wiring on the OBD-I's. Also don't forget that when installing a VTEC motor into a non-vtec car, you have to wire that up into the harness for the ECU. If U have an Si or an EX or VX then U can ignore this. I have a CX so I gotta wire it up, but since I am planning on getting a B18B there is no VTEC, so I don't have to worry there either hehe. Oh and trust me, use the website link I gave you, they have everything U need about honda swaps there!!!

Hey guys thanks for all the replies, suggestions, help. I checked the website you gave me, I've been there before, but only just started to understand it well. When I buy the car and motor I'll let you all know how the swap goes. Thanks again!
