okay so i got my new 59300 cam in and go and install it and did the valve lash according to the specs they gave me, i go and turn the car over and i get nothing, every few seconds while its cranking it makes a low burping kinda noise, please somehelp me out i need the car

well this was my day off but i really need to get it going it cranks and the cam gear is spinning so it is not binding up or anything i dont know what to do

maybe the timing is off now? im not sure

are you sure you have the timing set dead on? when you crank it does the motor spin freely, or is there some resistance from compression. it is quite possible you have the cam timing a few teeth on the sprocket.

it seems like it is struggling but when i did the valve lash when i put it to tdc cylinder 1 was on its compression stroke would u suggest that i turn the car over w/o my spark plugs in and turn off the fuel and see if it moves easier?

hey did you set the timing dead on and are the valves adjusted right everythings tightned. and make sure you cleaned everything and did you put any grease on the cam before you put it in. and did you put and lubercaite on the bearsand the mains that hold the camshaft in place. Just look over everything real careful to make sure you did the procedures right and get back to me

do you occassionally hear a popping/hissing noise when cranking?

does the car start cranking at all if you floor the accelerator while turning it over?

double and triple and quadruple your cam timing... as i have found that, with this cam, even if it is just a tooth off, it can make starting very difficult.

well i am not in a good mood cause my car wont start, what i am doing now is i took off the entire rocker arm assembly off again and i am going to put the crank at TDC and then check the cam gear to see if it is as well,

edit: they arent the same so i am going to go try and change it

man.. i had the same problems... except mine was because my valve lashings were incorrect... i washed my cylinders w/ fuel... gave me the impression of no compression... had to take out the spark plugs and let it air out.. ugh ... good luck man.

well thanks i dont know the problem i took off all of the assembly and just the cam is sitting there attached ot the dizzy and the cam gear which is set to TDC and cylinder #1 is at its highest point and i havent changed anything so i dont know why it would do it, but anyways with the new cam i set the valve lash to .007 intake side and .009 exhaust side thats what the sheet told me to do that came with the cam is this incorrect cause you said your didnt work cause your valve lashes were wrong?

well i pulled everything off and moved the belt over 1 single tooth on the gear and it started up perfectly, i am soo relieved i will be making a write up tomorrow.

how does your car feel down low and where is your ignition timing set to? I have this cam in my y8 and I cannot run it on 0 degrees cam timing. I can only pull 6 degrees of ignition timing out of it at 0 degrees. I found that 3 degrees advanced works the best and it pulled really well . This cam really needs to be degreed to find the proper 0 degree...which i believe should be somewhere around 5 advanced on the cam gear. This cam works well retarded a couple degrees though. Also i don't just think it is because i have the cam in a y8. I have a z6 str cam gear on there which should set the cam gear keyslot to where it needs to be. I have also heard of people with z6's having to set theirs the same way. Just ask eg6ajk who had it in his d15b and turbodcx who has it in his built turbo z6. I told turbodcx about how the cam didn't work for me at 0 degrees and how i couldn't pull enough ignition timing out of the dizzy at 0. He said he checked his timing and it was extremely retarded where he had it at 0. He adjusted it a few degrees advanced like i told him and he said it felt as if he gained 50whp. Keep in mind this is a 350whp sohc .

well, the cam comes with a 4 degree retard on it already i believe and i dont want to adnvace it at all becuase i have nitrous and that could end pretty badly. but i am going to make a big ole write up for all you guys
