Default new 99 si owner with a few q's all in 1 thread

What up all.... as the topic states, im new to the civic world. i just bought a 99si coupe after i demolished my 94ls and i have a few q's about it.

Understeer problem:
the car has been modified with Tein Coilovers, not sure what kind of shocks but they're adjustable for sure front and rear. Haven't been able to mess too much with it since i bought it cuz it's miserable weather here in NOVA. Anyway, ive noticed an understeer problem that i have. I was wondering what i could do about it. As shameful as it is, the car came with 185/65/15 H rated (shitty *** tires) which will be coming off after the winter months. I was wondering really if that could be a cause to the understeer issue since the tires aren't even factory spec? I want to keep the stock SI rims so i'll prob get 205/50/15's or 195/55/15's after winter. the car also already has a rear strut bar and some type of rear lower tie bar(not sure if it's stock on the SI or not.)

I also wanted to know if a stock g3 gsr front strut bar would fit?

B16a2, <----what's the 2 mean???

sorry if these questions seem ridiculous, i did search and didnt find any direct answers. I appreciate your imput and any advice to fixing that understeer prob. I don't know what the spring rates are since i havent been able to mess with it, but when i do, ill post.

Thanks again all
peace

yea the g3 strutbar should fit, the lower tie bar is not factory. and the 2 in b16a2 means its a second generation of the motor in the us market.

Now, do you have Tein Springs (S-Techs) or Tein Coilovers (Basics, SS, Flex, HA, HE, etc.)? If the latter, you can dial out some of the understeer by setting the front shocks to about half stiffness and the rears to full. Also, you can stagger your tire pressure with a higher rear bias if you'd like.

I would highly suggest the second generation of Suspension Technique's swaybar/tiebar combo if it's available for your car. It will negate all of your understeer and, if your car handles anything like mine, actually allow you to induce quite a bit of throttle-lift oversteer when you desire it.

go with 205/50-15 tires, probably the best size for our cars.

you should already have the same upper strut bar as GSR's. the Si should have come with one stock....

the b16a2: the 2 just means teh motor is a USDM obd2 spec.

fantastic replys fellas... certainly appreciate the info... ill ck into what kind of coilovers they are. like i said, havent been able to ck them out due to the shitty weather here, but i will.

if the Si comes with a stock front strut, similar to the gsr, well who ever owned it before me took it off. im glad to hear it will fit so i guess ill pick one up.

you say the Si doesn't come with a stock rear lower tie bar eh? well guess i have one of those..lol

ill def look into getting the wider base tire 205/50/15 for my stock SI rims. but im gonna wait till after the winter months.

thanks again for all the replys

peace all

Just noting that yes, 185/65/15's will make the car handle and feel like ****. Thats what my snow tires are anyways and they handle like a sloppy joe sandwich!

have fun with the new car, it's a blast to own/drive

I think you'll enjoy the 205/50's once you put them on, esp if you get the falken azenis, you'll have to really push for some understeer.

That reminds me, check your settings for your shocks (if adjustable) and check the spring rates for the springs. That could attribute to the understeer.
