Can you take a close up pic of the cams? You can tell by the lobes. The Y7 and Y8s had the same valve cover, VTEC or not.

If it's from a pre 96 car, then it would not be VTEC, becuase it would either have the spark plugs on the other side, or say VTEC on the valve cover.

OK THAT IS NOT A VTEC HEAD the location of the spark plugs means jack ****, it has no solenoid nor does it have lost motion actuators, therfore it cannot have vtec plain and simple

it has no spot for the vtec solenoid
and it has none of the vtec mechanics inside the head.

so as said before, NOT VTEC

well man, there you have it: Yes it is, no it isn't, it could be, we're not sure, return it, smack the guy in the face and dont return it.

Those are your answers, have a nice day and thanks for stopping by.

thats an OBD2 NON VTEC HEAD. why is this thread 2 pages long. the valve cover could be off of any obd2 Dseries motor. find the head code on the exhaust side of the head at the #3 (i believe) ports.

I believe the spark plugs are on the back of the valve cover for non-vtec. May just be missing the solenoid.

Probably out of an EX. Of course I could be mistaken.</TD></TR></TABLE>

i agree why in the hell is this thread still going..

THAT
HEAD
DOES
NOT
HAVE
VTEC

SIMPLE, spark plug location doesnt matter, all pre '96 vtec motors had the spark plugs on that side however on the 96-00 d16's the non-vtec were also on that side making that point of reasoning moot. Now ANYONE WITH EYES can clearly see there is no vtec solenoid, nor are there are any mounting points nor passages for oil associated with a vtec system. Also the lost motion actuators which all vtec systems have are not present, they would be located inbetween the rocker arms with on for each cylinder.

D16Z6 (VTEC MOTOR)

here you can clearly see the solenoid in the top left of the head under the hose, and the LMA's which are in the center sticking up out of the girdle. The head you have doesnt have these.

Don't buy a head with that much varnish unless you plan on a full rebuild.

d16y7 head. Not a 95 but 96-00. Non-vtec. Just valve cover looks like a vtec head. No vtec solenoid and valve train is totaly different looking.
