Re: need help, is this a vtec head (954dooreg)

non vtec and probably from 96 up unless that valve cover replaced the orig.

Spracer03 03-21-2006 09:01 PM

im on the NO bandwaggon... just look for where the vtec solenoid mounts

xfletcherxx 03-21-2006 09:06 PM

Re: (spracer03)

it may be. check for the solenoid. a friend of mine has a 96 civic with a sohc vtec in it, and it has that valve cover.

ZipTieGUy 03-21-2006 09:06 PM

dnag man, they better not pull some shit when you try to return it.

he doesnt kno where that would be! it would be on the side of the head facing the front of the car, and if u were standing in front of the car, it d be on your left hand side...did i explain that good enough?? lol

the VTEC solenoid on a d-series is behind the head (facing the firewall) more towards the left hand side if standing infront of the car. from the looks of it, there are two prongs sticking out of the head where it should be, i dont know if the solenoid mounts to that, someone more knowledgable would need to fill you in on this.

Doesn't look like there's any spot for the VTEC solenoid in this pic.

Re: need help, is this a vtec head (954dooreg)

Looks like a vtec head to me.

I believe the spark plugs are on the back of the valve cover for non-vtec. May just be missing the solenoid.

Probably out of an EX. Of course I could be mistaken.

looks like a vtec head to me as well plugs in front. if they were in the back of the motor it would be a non-vtec motor

Re: (954dooreg)

on the z6, didn't the 92-93 not say vtec on them, and the 94 95 do say vtec?

EG6_GUY 03-22-2006 11:09 AM

Re: (deathplaza)

I've seen them four ways from 92-95.

1. black coated w/VTEC and HONDA (symbol and wording)
2. black coated paint w/HONDA (symbol and wording) only
3. no paint w/VTEC and HONDA (symbol and wording)
4. no paint w/HONDA only

Re: (EG6_GUY)

looking at the spark plug holes:

95 head, it is a VTEC head.

96+ head, it could be anything
