Default need help! running problems/wont start

***UPDATE***
fixed it.. there was a loose ground wire one the thermostat to the wire harness!!! car runs great now! thanks everyone for your time and help!

-original post-

i have recently swapped in a jdm itr 97 spec motor into my 97 del sol si.. the engine starts up and idles fine. it drives fine with low throttle/low rpm driving, i can get on it full throttle and wind it out to about 6-8k rpm before it cuts out.. i'm not sure weather its fuel or spark. then once it cuts out once or twice it starts sputtering really bad and eventually stalls. it usually doesnt start up right away but just fire a little and stall out again.. i let it set for 20-30 mins or over night and it starts back up, runs and drives fine until i get on it, then the same thing happens

list of parts i've already checked:
spark plugs (new ngk vpowers)
new distributor (tried 2 different ones)
grounds to the engine

let me know if you have any suggestions!!!!

vtec does engage, no CEL, and i just changed and checked the oil-perfect

i should probably list a few other things.. its the stock del sol si wire harness for the engine, stock fuel pump, converted to obd1-chipped p28 (tested the ecu in another car and worked perfectly) stock fuel pressure

the engine may not be timed perfectly, i dont know how to time it because i changed the crank pulley and the new one doesnt have a mark on it for timing.

lol oh ****, how sure are you that its set to TDC? id say go to a smog shop and pay the guy 10 bux to set your timing to stock, see if that helps.

oh and you may have a bad headgasket.

but check your headgasket with a compression test too, it could be letting coolant in the block

Though the crankshaft pulley is missing timing marks, you must find some way to set the ignition timing to specification.

i'm in the process of looking for a new harmonic balancer

would ignition timing cause this?
