Need help finding out CEL code
Hey guys,
I started another thread ( https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=740355 ) with a few questions post-swap with no CELs. I now have a CEL and need to find out the code on it. On the instruction of another memeber, I peeled back the carpet ont he passenger side, and took off the little peice infront of the ECU right along the side wall there. I put the car in the 'on' position so that it showed the CEL light as on and looked for nay kind of blinking light on the ECU. I saw nothing. I even tried firing it up and looking, still nothing. Please help! This a '97 civic ex, with what I can only assume is a stock ecu (though if someone provdes me with a pic of a stock ecu I can verify, i tried google images)
Story from my other thread:
"The clutch had no response so we bled it and when that felt good we pushed it out of the garage, gave it a jump, and let it idle. It was idling fine, but all of the sudden the CEL started blinking and then it came on solid. It was in nuetral and everything. It does this every time we start it. I tried reseting the ECU, but that didnt work it came back. Any ideas? Any way to check this w/o using a scan tool?"

There is a way to check codes on these cars w/o a scan tool. If you search I know it is around here somewhere as this question is often asked. If the car is OBDII you can take it to autozone and have them pull the codes for free though. Or find someone with a scan tool
Well the car has a bunch of body panels off, and isn't insured so i cant go anywhere with it until the body work is done
I have tried searching, but Ill continue to do so I suppose
I found one article but it was for 92-95 and didnt seem to apply to my ecu, I checked

if u dont have a scan tool there should b a jumper wire right under the glove box on most honda?acuras...jump the two wires and your check engine light will blink...a long blink for the first number and quick blinks for the second digit...i.e one long blink (1) and six quick blinks (6) so it would b code 16

YEs, brn /blk... its mounted inside that green rubber plug up top. u have to put a paper clip or a spade connector to jump it and have the car flash the CEL codes...
