Default Need help ASAP, headgasket question.

Well I bought a head from G2hybrid off here. I put it on my car with a new cometic headgasket. G2hybrid said the head had low miles and was in perfect condition so I didn't think to check the valves. Well the car ran like pure crap and shot raw gas out like a champ. Checked my compression and my #2 cyl had horrible compression. Took the head off and found out it had some bent valves on the #2 cyl.

So here is my question. I only drove the car around the block and idled for about 15 min. The headgasket was a Cometic MLS gasket. Can I reuse this gasket or do I need to buy another one?

As a general rule of thumb, never reuse a head gasket. Once the head bolts are torqued in the proper sequence, the gasket smooshes, if you will, to properly seal everything. You can't remove the torque and then re-smoosh the gasket and expect it to seal properly.

I don't know much about that particular gasket, but if you want to live dangerously, you can try to reuse it and see if you get lucky. I recommend just spending a few bucks on a new gasket and making sure it's right though.

EDIT: What's that head you have for sale in your sig? I'm not familiar with all the number-and-letter abbreviations (yet), would it do anything for my stock Civic? If so, how much you want for it?

if you do decide to reuse your head gasket, at least buy copper head gasket spray.

Its a head from a 97 Ex D16Y8 SOHC Vtec. I fully built a motor and then found a new toy, so I decided to go stock with the Civic. Asking $350 for it, which was the cost of the port and polish alone.

But they charge $4 for handling, plus shipping. So it comes out the same price as Autozone quoted lol
