Need Help ASAP!!!
Has anyone ever changed their oilpan gasket? I went to change mine today and notice there is a black plate bolted to the tranny by the oil pan that apparantly has to be removed before the oil pan does. Well, when I broke the first bolt free, it started to drip gear oil, I guess because it wasn't dark enough to be motor oil. is this normal. Does anyone know how to change this gasket that can help so I do it properly? Any help is greatly appreciated.

if you are removing the transmission plate you shouldn't have to worry about oil leaking out.. how much oil are we talking about? I wouldn't worry about it. if you pull the bolt out and there is a steady stream of oil.. that when you should worry. other wise it's a simple job just remember to clean the mating surfaces well.

I don't know how much, I just gave abou 1/2 turn on the bolt and oil started to drip out, it didn't seem like a whole lot but then again I didn't take the bolt all the way out.

This is on a 95 Dx d15, I just got this car as a new project, and it has been quite abused in its life. The bolt I loosened was a 17mm on the front side by the radiator.

the only 17mm bolts that are close to oil in that motor is the transmission oil fill bolt on the trans next to the axle and the engine oil drain plug. you're fine go ahead and pull the cover off on motors that have been driven with oil leaks its not uncommon for oil to be found in the shafts with the bolts.

wait you pulled out the little black flimsy tin cover right? thats the flywheel cover plate. it should NOT be leaking oil from in there unless the gasket is bad on the pan.
