HELP!! oil pan bolt doesnt tighten down!!
hey guys, i have a problem i'm going on a trip tomorrow and was changing my oil. when i went to tighten down the bolt it doesn't tighten all the way. it'll come loose if i try to tighten it like usual. it's tight enough to where no oil comes out and i can't loosen it with my hands. is it okay to drive it like that? i'm gonna be driving around 300 miles. please let me know asap thank you

It sounds like you stripped the threads on your oil pan. I wouldn't drive 300 miles on that, theres a chance the bolt will back out and all your oil will drain. You may need to get new helicoils put in, if you can take the bolt back out, then check it for metal shavings.

As long as it is not leaking it might ok (keep your eye on it), but the next time you change your oil you are going to need to fix it. It isn't going to get better. Your best bet is to remove the oil pan and tap the hole for a bigger drain bolt, or replace the oil pan all together...
