Default Need To Get Flywheel To Stop Turning

I can't remove any of the flywheel bolts since this damn thing keeps turning. What tool do I need to get it to seize for the time being?

stick something in the teeth and the bock. if you dont have an 1/2 impact i wouldnt even try. unless the engine is out the car. ***** used lock tight

I've seen bell housings crack from the screwdriver trick, I wouldn't try that if I were you. There was even a thread in this forum a couple months back with pictures of the result.

You could get a crank pulley tool, that would stop the crank from turning, but trying to get them out with hand tools is going to require at least a friend (to stop the crank from turning), a couple breaker bars, and a couple long-*** extensions - and I'd say even then you've got a good shot at snapping bolts.

I got it too stop and I can't get the bolts, not even with my impact.....should I use a penetrating spray? I already used heat and that didn't work. expletive!!!!!

Someone posted this a while back:

Looks feasible..

Make sure you are using an impact type socket
that fits the bolt tightly..Otherwise you are losing the force..
Turn the air pressure all the way up...
Just keep hammering on it with the impact and it should give up..

use a chain vise on the pulley to stop it from moving

I used the wrench trick and a 10mm 12pt socket with a crapsman 1 1/2 foot braker bar. bitches came right off. but this was with the engine on a stand.

Can't you just just hold it on the pulley side with a 19mm socket and ratchet?

I wouldn't do that I've personally ruined a few pulleys being lazy like that, the only way to do it right is with the correct tools. The best one is shaped like a gear on one side and bolts to the engine block and holds it in place quite nicely.

As for your problem of getting the bolts out try some penetrating oil like you said let it soak in there good for a while and perhaps try a bigger impact gun with a higher volume compressor. If all else fails use a breaker bar with a long *** cheater bar, just be care full when it eventually does break free you don't hurt yourself.

Also try using the shortest socket you can get for your impact, no deep ones and no extensions or adapters, I forget the formula but with everyone of those you use you lose torque from the gun making it less effective.

Someone mentioned doing this on a engine stand..

Be very careful when applying excessive force to an engine
on an engine stand,
Especially if it is the cheesy type with only three wheels..

I say this to help prevent the surprized look on your face
went it hits the floor.. It has happened to me before..

Set it down on an old tire in the floor so it won't fall...
If positioned right, the tire can also help keep the flywheel from turning.

stick the gun in there and hit for about a min. to get the loctite hot then it hit it again, should come right out

Bro are you kidding me ...lol take 2 transmission bolts .... screw one into the block and take the other stick it between the flywheel and transmission bolt...the flywheel wont move in a million years, you wont mess anything up, and itll be nice and easy

You should not need any thing more than a 1/2" inpact. with that they should come off or break.

this snap-on tool helps you hold the flywheel with one hand while the other hand uses tool or impact

if u wedge somethign in there so it won't move, a breaker bar w/ some PVC piping over it will do the trick (more torque than a impact wrench'll have)

use the impact and go forward for a split secound then reverse. That picture with the wrench is calling for a problem.

Just use air and stop being a *****. They're like 75ft/lbs...you could hit a ratchet with a rubber mallet and break them loose without spinning the flywheel.
