Default Pinning the B Crank

We have been having problems with our flywheel rotating on the crank flange. Our solution was to add 2 hardened pins to the crank flange.

Holes drilled into the flywheel. No more friction welding the crank to the flywheel.
Castillo Crankshaft did the work.

im assuming u drilled the holes into the crank and then just pressed in the pins???

did the crank need to be rebalanced after?

How does the flywheel move with all the bolts there?

I'm guessing there is some minor play in those bolts and with enough abuse it could cause the problems earl was having??

BTW: its probably not something to worry about if you're making sub 500hp numbers. I would imagine this is on his full race cars.

So the flywheel mating surface bonds to the crank? Never heard of this, do the threads of the flywheel bolts dig into the flywheel holes? got any pics of this problem? could I ask anymore questions?

Doesn't the H22 have dowels/pins like this stock?

According to my unreliable memory, it seems that I had a heck of a time getting my aftermarket flywheel to line up with the dowels really good. It was a very, very snug fit.

Here is the best pix I have on the friction welded crank. The flywheel is still bolted tight but it tends to vibrate or resonate hard enough to glow and weld

weird. How did you find this problem. Just a tear down or was there vibration or something.

so your saying the clutch/flywheel had to do with breaking your oil pump ?

You think is has something to do with that flywheel? I've never seen or had this problem. Is the flywheel thinner than a stock one there, bolts bottoming out on the crank maybe, not getting tight to the flywheel?

On the prelude, it has dowels like this, but only so you get the flywheel in the right position, since the timing marks are on the flywheel instead of the crank.

Tony, right now I'm hoping it was from a detonation problem causing a vibration reaction problem, but not sure. We did find the source of the detonation.
BTW, we have to use auto trans bolts with this flywheel to not bottom them out.

Interesting. Could also be the result of a misbalanced flywheel / clutch package / or both, as well, though? Or have you had this happen multiple times?

Hmm, damn thats weird. I bet it could be from the mains not being straight too
J/K
We just pulled apart my partners low budget LSvtec and the ACT flywheel/crank he had in it was all chewed up like that also.
Are they factory flywheel pins??

Wow...first time I've ever seen a galled up crank flange like that!

No, they are a custom made hardened pin, smaller than stock. The problem started getting worse when we upped the power quite a bit. I've seen this happen when flywheel bolts have come loose but in our case, all the bolts were tight.
