Default Need Alternator: Which one?

I am needing a new alternator because of the bearings going out on my 99 civic ex.

Which alternators are good to get? Rebuilds from Autozone/AdvanceAutoParts/Oreillys? or selling both of my kidneys and getting a new one from honda?

If its a remanufactured alternator from an auto parts store, what brands have everyone had good luck with? Some say Lifetime warranty and some are lifetime with roadside assistance for 2 years(theses are the cheaper ones). Some of the more expensive ones only have a few month warranty

I haven't gotten an alternator before so I don't know what would be the best to get.

Thanks!

the rebuilds will be fine since they have a pretty descent warranty and everything. I personally havenever had a problem with them.

has anyone else has any probs with rebuilds?

I am not sure where is the best place to get them either. I know NAPA i have heard is good but their stuff is more expensive; worth it?

i just looked on hondaautomotiveparts and saw even they are $600

When I lost my alternator (rusted off stud), I overnight'd an eBay rebuilt high-amperage Denso (165 amp). It has run fine for me, and was about $150 to my door I believe.

Aim for a Denso I'd say, they're an OEM provider. No need to let online dealership charge you the price of a motor for the alternator. :-)

Purchase a Denso alternator - case closed.

Auto Zone/Advanced/O'Reily's reman ones are junk IMO. Having been at this Honda/Acura onl;y repair shop for the past 8 years I've seen countless year-old reman parts store alternators take a crap far too early.

Like Davus said - Denso supplies them to Honda, so it IS OE, but cheaper.

You can find them online, but somem parts stores may carry them too.

I looked on DensoProducts and they show one that says "canada" thats more expensive and one that says "except canada"; both are remanufactured. do I get the "except canada"?

Okay it says "for models sold in Canada" or "models not sold in Canada.

Unless your car was made to be SOLD originally in Canada get the non-Canada one.

Thanks, will do.

This isnt really going to be helpful in my alternator situation but, how long do stock alternators usually last? I was reading on the net that improper installation of the belts making the bearings wear out can be common.
