Default Is my ignitor bad?

00' GSR motor in EG civic, car bogs out between 2-4k RPM, sputters, sounds like it is misfiring, tap the gas and the revs just sit there and sort of mis/backfire. Then when it acts up, at a stop light at idle, the car bogs out at idle to below normal idle point (sounds like the car has a set of cams), then the motor revs itself back up to about 1000 or so RPM without me touching the gas.

Ive had this problem for a month or so now, Im thinking it is the ignitor.

I'd guess the same thing, seems like an ignitor problem. I'd swap distributors with someone and give it a shot.

Check for condensation build up on the distributar cap and rotar as well as on the plugs and in the wires.

Check all your engine grounds...and don't forget the one that attaches to the thermostat housing.

I had a similar problem and that is what the problem was.

that could be one of many things. It sounds ignition related. My plugs had gotten wet and my car was doing the same thing. I would just check plugs, wires, dizzy cap and rotor first. Maybe try using another distributor like everyone else sais.

I would advise against purchasing a new ignitor, as it may not even be the problem. Again, swapping your distributor w/somone else's may narrow it down for you. If it is the ignitor, I would try to find a used one, as $202 is extremely high for something that will probably fail in the future.

OK, now I'm thinking ,maybe a valve is stuck open? I know of cars this has happend on, and these symptoms would make sense. I cant do a compression test to find out , because it is only bogging out while driving

Guy, no offense, but look at the other posts above. Why not swap out your distributor with a friend/family member, for free, to determine if it's the ignitor or distributor. You're introducing more problems, when there's a simple test you can do for free, that takes less than 10minutes.
