my first swap - opinions please
just picked up a '95 hatch vx with 313,000 miles for $1700. everything else is in great shape. no rust, little body damage. this will be my first swap. i'm not an idiot, but not a lot of experience either. i'm not trying to go huge here, just want something with some ***** for now and something to learn on. what's the most direct swap i could do? i'm looking to spend around $1500-2000 for everything. i was thinkin about a b16a. will the stock tranny be enough? what about ecu? what else am i lookin at? where have you guys found the best deals on engines? i don't want some piece of crap, high-mileage, junk. i'm sure everyone's bored with these kinds of posts, but thanks for any input.

God damn 3XX,XXX miles. No you cannot use stock tranny, you got to use a b series tranny, you can get a p28 ecu for EG EX/SI get it chipped to run the motor, need shiftlinkage, motor mounts, axles. So you might as well get a complete swap. I don't know if you will pull of a b16a2 swap for $2000 unless you get hooked up. I would shoot for something lover if you are on budget b18b with an SI tranny, or even d16z6. Believe me the car won't feel right without a good suspension it will go fast straight but it will ride like ****.

for a good b-series motor, either a b16a gen2 or b18b (ls) motor in my opinion. b18c (GSR/Type-R's) are too much to start out with.
i've heard b16a is good all motor or turbo. if you want the boost route in the future, go with b18b.
you won't find many b16a full swap for less than $2000. more likely few hundreds more. i've seen b18b's for $1800 full swap though. good luck, you never know you might find a good deal!
some online shops:

and more...you can search here on h-t
good luck with your project.

LOL. I'm telling you man. H-T is nothing but bashing. If we see a door to bash someone, we leg hump the **** out of it.
B16 is not a bad motor to start with. You might not be happy with the torque output, but it's a good platform to begin with.

Re: (Dimi)
it sounds like a good find if the body is decent... now you should have money to buy a full swap. go with a b18c1 and turbo it or even a b16a2 imo...
