Default my cold air intake is getting wet

i installed a tenzo r cold air intake into my eg hatch si, and it rained the other day and i reached around the tire and felt the filter....it was soaked. i know this is a problem. i dont have those plastic covers that go around ur tires....should i go check out some junk yards and try to find them? will that fix my problem? what could happen from my filter getting wet?

Yes, you need those if you have a CAI.

Yes. If you're in a big enough rainstorm, and you're constantly driving water into the filter, you could hydrolock your motor.

yea bro, u definitely need to go an get that peice of plastic, a junkyard well probably give it to u for like 5 bucks haha... or do like i did an get a bypass valve http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...QrdZ1

I live in sunny southwest florida, where matter a fact, its pouring rain outside right now lol... But yeah man definitely invest in one of those cuz it could save ur cars life...

I've been driving in NY and New England for 5 years / 120K mi without a problem.

A bypass valve will only protect you if the filter is fully submerged, not when water is being driven into it. It wouldn't help him in this case.

get one of those new injen water resistant covers... that should solve the prob but i wouldnt be suprised if it didnt cuz of your car not having the plastic things... avoid water holes until you solve your prob, cuz i kno to many people that have their engine FUCKED up from gettins hydro-locked and other probs relating to CAI with water

Making slightly more power is NOT worth hydrolocking your motor. Either sell your CAI and get a short-ram, or make the CAI a short-ram. Trust me, it's a lot better than having to rebuild or replace your motor.

I had no wheel well cover and had a CAI I never had a problem. I tried to avoid large puddles as often as possible. Motor is still pulling like the first day I had it

you could always get a water diffuser/seperator deal...

but i would go with short ram.
i live in utah, it gets wet here. i have a short ram. no problems what-so-ever.
