My car sounds like it has asthma?!?!
Seriously it does.
So I have a b16a2 swapped into a 97 hatch. For an intake Im using an air filter on a Si stock intake tube. Before this sound started, everytime I shift I would hear a "psshh" similiar to a bov. "Kinda cool", I thought. After a few months it slowly started to stop. No more "pshh".
Now there is a weird sound coming from the intake, like a vacuum cleaner motor. It is NOT a suction noise but more of a loud mechanical "whirring" noise. If I take the intake off, you can barely hear it, but when I put it back on it amplifies the noise. I traced the source of the noise to the intake manifold. I dont think this is normal. Is my manifold going out? I checked the intake pipe for a clog and had the throttle body cleaned.
I recently changed the IACV to one from a GSR. The car drops to a very low idle at stops now and when I have my a/c on it drops even lower. The "pshh" came back but now when I shift it makes a hollow "whir" noise, then "pssh" that sounds almost like wheezing (to me). The "pshh" noise randomly goes away andcomes back.
Im going to buy a new PCV valve tomorrow and see if that helps, but untill then I am completely stumped. HELP! PLEASE!

One of the things our beutifull Honda engines are remarked by is their suction noise when idling. Its beutifull.
I cant really diagnost anything out of the "sounds" you've giving me to work with here. I wouldnt be concerned of it sucking false air, since its idling low.
Could you tape this for us?

Re: (jumai182)
Ok I seem to have figured it out. I had to tweak the idle adjustment screw. I got it to idle stable around 900 with the a/c on and off. Also the weird noise seems to be because of the old worn out, old air filter Im using on the ghetto fabbed intake. Ill drive to and from work today and post up a confirmation.
