Default My car doesn't start as well when it's low on gas? Why?

When I have a full tank of gas, I go to crank the car (cold engine), and it starts RIGHT up.

When my gas is getting low, IE: lower than 1/4, it will take more cranks for the engine to start, I'd say 3 times as long as with a full tank.

I know for a fact that this is not a fluke, I have done tests with the past 3 tanks.

It could be many things, but I'm assuming it's a fuel delivery problem. Maybe clogged fuel pump or injectors? I don't really know.

Can anyone help me get my car to start normal ALL the time??

Thanks.

I have the same problem. I just live with it. As long as the engine starts.

its called your pump is having to work a little harder to find fuel to pump to your engine......

keep your tank full and it will be fine

Mine does it too, perfectly normal.

I've heard that if you leave the key in the accesories on position for a little bit before cranking the engine it dosent do it, but I havent cared enought to try it.

its is not good to drive you car on a low tank of gas... common sense i know... if you do..it wears out the fuel pump, the gas keeps the fuel pump cool and if you dont have alot of fuel it heats up faster and over time it kills the pump, this is over time keep in mind... so its always best to keep a half tank at the least in ur tank... and this is a definate if you live in a cold climate like i do in pittsburgh... no gas means its easier for ur lines to freeze...fuel line freeze up is an expensive alternative to not keep gas in the tank.... simple solution to your problem of it crankin too long... keep fuel in it.

No its the on position, right before crankin. You need to let the fuel system prime everytime before you start the car. That way you will have enough fuel pressure to start right up. You can even hear the pump workin. Even if you prime your fuel system, when your tank is low it will be harder to start. Trade mark of the fuel injected systems.

Unleaded pump gas does not freeze. Diesel does however.

And it's common for civic's to do this when low on gas. Don't worry about it unless you absolutely can't start the car. And at that point, you will need some gas.
