Icon2 My car is acting up

I have a 1999 Civic EX. As far as i know, the only modifications done to it are new wheels and tires. Nothing fancy, just some aluminum 14" wheels and some falken tires from Discount Tire Co. The problem is, whenever I am trying to accellerate (not race), the car hits about 2000 rpm and seems to lose power. It's almost as if there is no power band. I know, it's a Honda, there isn't enough power to be worried about BUT, it seems to have no power band. I have replaced the fuel filter, air filter and put a muffler on it. I thought it could be because of lack of back pressure. I also ran some sea foam through the fuel. I'm starting to think I'm going to have to change the clutch. If anyone has a better guess (or diagnosis) please, let me know.

Do you have an automatic transmission?

When was your last ignition system tune up?

Any CEL codes?

No, It's a 5 speed. I don't know when the last full tune up was, the guy I bought it from said that recently, the timing belt and plugs and wires were changed. My wife just took the easy way out and used google. The last cel code was that one about the cat being below threshold. So, looks like I'm ordering a new cat. Know of any cheap-ish good quality direct fit ones?

Just order a magnaflow OE replacement. Cheap and effective.

Before you replace the cat, do a full tune up (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, ignition timing). Otherwise, you'll soon be buying another cat ($$$).

Unless the previous owner provided you with recent documentation of a tune up and timing belt job, it's risky to believe it.

I took the car to an exhaust shop and they did a quick check and said that the cat was broken up and rattling around inside. hopefully after spending $180 and a couple of hours there, it will run like it should. it seems like 3 of the 4 hamsters died and the other one was dragging the other 3 around on the wheel.

Remove the cat and gut it out, just ram a bar through it and pour the busted stuff out. The only downfall to this is that your exhaust is stinky when you punch it change your fuel filter too

LOLOL

yeah, a failed cat can really take the muscle out of any engine. similar to a banana in a tail pipe.

Another problem it had, which I never thought to check, The fuel pump strainer had fallen off inside the tank. So, I replaced the pump and strainer and now she runs like a champ. I never thought that little thing would play such a big part in how the car ran.
