My baby won't start, this is crazy??
Ok I know I have power, fuel pump turns on brand new 255. Starter works took it out and checked it, plus you can hear it trying to do something. but the car will not turn over? I just put this motor in and can not figure this out. You can hear the starter engage and click but won't turn the motor over. Any help would mean the world.

so when you had the starter out i assume you tested the solenoid right, and not just the starter motor seperate? if it functions properly outside the car, and you're getting power in the car from the trigger wire, then theres really no reason it shouldnt be turning over.. hmmm. are your tranny to chassis, and engine to chassis grounds in use and intact?

I have no way of doing that right now, I have the breaks off. But its weird, I hear the starter engaging, click clack click. Power to everything, but it wont turn the motor over, is it a bad battry, or bad starter. I took the starter out and it pushed out and spun, so it should be good.

is it like a light clicking noise or a hard clunk like its hitting the flywheel and not spinning. if it's clicking and not doing anything then that really sounds like the solenoid is acting up. they can be difficult to diagnose. work one second, then not the next.

Hard clunk plus a click lol. It sounds like the starter is hitting the fly wheel but not moving it. The teeth on the starter and on the fly wheel are not like brand new but there not missing any teeth, show wear but nothing crazy.

i don't believe they are different. auto and manuals trans starters are different though. for b-series anyway i know that an auto starter will not line up to a manual trans, so i imagine the same thing may be true with d-series. i doubt thats your problem though.
