My 97 Hatchback

My 97 Hatchback
Ok for some reason when i go from high rpms to low my car dies. Like getting off the freeway at the light if I have to stop it will die.
I dont know if the idle may be to low or what but is there any other ideas what the problem could be.
When driving in lower rpm's the car is fine. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Do you drive for awhile before this happens? Is it a auto or stick? Any excesive heat? Fluids in good shape? Could be a few things but if ya answer those it might narrow it down.
From what ya just said though id say your tranny is gettin into fubar status. May need rebuilt. If it was a auto i had a cav that had the same problem and it turned out to be a bad torque converter. What it was doing was staying in a higher gear and didnt down shift into a lower. When it did this it would putter out and die when i came to a stop then after awhile it would allright till i went into a higher gear again.

it is a stick, has a new tranny, clutch and flywheel. No excessive heat and the fluids all look good, what sucks is i do not have a tach so i cannot see my rpms so i do not know what im idle at. Cause we raised the idle a little bit the other day and it did not die at all, but then it just started doing it again it was like the idle went back down. Also when i stop at a stop sign or light if i pull up to it quick like i said if i hold the gas or keep pressing it the car will not die. I hope this kind of narrows it down.

Highly doubt that.........Anyways, its not your tranny. That pretty much has nothing to do with your car dying. I would check your timing, shoot your timing to a stock spec and work from there. Is your cam timing other than stock? Find out what RPM your idle is at when your car is warmed up.

my cousins 97 hatch died when he stopped. we had just changed his timing belt, and water pump, one of his valve cover bolts broke (the one with the rubber grommit). once we got a new grommit. it didn't die anymore. so it might be loss of compression? i dont know (this wasn't a worthy contribution to the thread)

Re: (frosteg6)
What motor and what ECU are u running? I had that same problem too, I have a 99 LS and I was using a 93 LS ecu and anytime I came to a light my idle would drop then die, or if I rev'd and let it go down it would die, I just changed ECU's and problem solved
