rpms surging at HWY speeds..plz help
1999 civic ex AUTOMATIC
ok my idle rpm's are constant (~750), my tranny shifts like butter. now every once in a while when in 4th gear doing 75-80mph on the highway (~3k rpms), the rpms just shoot up a couple hundred for a few seconds and then go back down. this is the only problem i have with this car. and i dont even know if its a major problem or what but would like to hear some suggestions on what i should look at. thank you.

Since it's and auto, is your overdrive disengaging?
Whatever it is, the car is going to blow up soon. Give me $100 and I'll take it off of your hands for you.

by highway speeds do you mean around 55-60 mph?
I have a family friend that works at a honda dealership, they get complaints all the time of things similar to this. If the change is drastic, your car may be just trying to decide which gear it needs to be in, i.e. it's shifting back and forth.
Your problem could be something else though, so maybe I'm wrong, but I do know that ALOT of people complain about something similar.
