Default Motor year????????????

is there a way to figure out the year of an engine using the serial number on the engine???

Look on the head, right above the header and under the valve cover, youll see some markings and itll be there. Theres a picture floating around and ill see if i could get that. Next time search.'

how do u idenitfy the block year? not the head

Block is easy. Look at the number under the engine type stamp... Example, the one under the "B16A1" stamp... The first digit tells the year. If its a B18C and has a "2XXXXXXX" number stamped on it, its a 1995 engine. Why? Becuase production began in 1994, 2 indicates second year production. See what I mean?

good thang... i need to check mines.. mine is sitting outside.. gettin ready to drop in.. but have problems... opposite wiring ... due to jdm motor...

Hmm. The JDM swap I did into a gen 2 teg, the wiring was all correct. Didn't require anything special.

The VIN number is on the newer engines. Seems 96 and up they started adding these tags. The VIN isn't near the stamp though. Its on the bottom of the block just above the oil pan.
