No.
first off the CHP will require the engine to be there in person, so if its stolen they can confiscate it.
and second they cant do JDM motors.
to read your engine year, look above the header (may have to remove stock heat shield) between the number 3-4 cylinders (remember it goes 4-3-2-1) there are small circurlar stamps
one will look like this
9|1 9|2 9|3 ETC
that is your year.

that's for the head, what about the block, from what i've seen, the head date is usually one year earlier or later (i forget which) than the block.

I believe it's one year earlier, so if it's a 96, it should be a 97 motor, my LS was stamped 93, but it was a 94 motor.
The blcok, you should look at the VIN number on the tranny, that's if it's the same tranny and the vin is there, other than that, not sure if you can tell.

If the car is 96+ look at the tranny you should see a VIN.
look at the tenth digit, that is the year code.
1989=K
1990=L
1991=M
1992=N
1994=R
1995=S
1996=T
1997=V
1998=W
1999=X
2000=Y
2001=1
2002=2

Re: how can u tell the year of your engine? (sshaikh01)
My '96 JDM ITR motor says '95 on the head, the motor was made in the fall of '95 so that it would be rdy when the car hit the showroom in early '96.

Yeah that guy up a few posts has it backwards....
if the engine is stamped with a 96 then the head was cast in 96 and is in a 97 chassis.
Motors are made before the car is.

Re: how can u tell the year of your engine?
so if i buy a jdm block from before 96, and throw a 96 + head on it, and use a tranny from a car that is made in 96+ then i can techincally be "legal" and stay under the gay NJ law stating that the motor you swap into your car has to be from the same year or newer as the car itself???????

on my friend's 94 integra the head says 94, on my 98 d16y8 the head says 98. how do you explain that?

Re: how can u tell the year of your engine? (civicdxtyper)
on MOST engines its the year before the car.
my 94 civic had a 93 engine
all of my friends have a year earlier motor.
your cars were late model year builds.
