Motor buy Yes or No ( please help guys quick )
ok guys i have exactly 2 hours to buy a fully built b18a with a b18c1 head. all of the leg work has been done and is rated at 302 hp and 220 tq after being dynoed, 0 miles on the motor and everything is done to spec by a prof shop.
My question is the compression is 15.0 will i be able to run pump gas with that compression or no. the only thing that is making me not buy it right now is cause i dont know if i can run pump gas high octane in it.
please help me guys

forcefed it was on an engine dyno, i have pictures and video of the motor on the dyno. only miles on the motor are the ones from the dyno and fine tuning. never in a car.

Forget about using anything except race fuel. Also, forget about driving that engine on a regular basis unless you are prepared for frequent rebuilds. With compression like that it is obviously a race engine.

bsmith. thats what i thought would be a constant battle. the only reason i am trying to get a already built motor is because i just want the leg work done already. do you guys know of any other places that have built b18c motors. i heard of j's speed. are they any good? or if you guys have any suggestions of where to get a built motor i would appreciate it.

just say, "no." If they're trying to unload it for street use, they're not a reputable shop (IMHO). I used to work in a vintage race shop that sold Dunlop tires and prepared their own and customer cars, and those engines were temperamental, quirky, required single-weight oil, extended warm up times, etc. They are built for a purpose and built to the extent that the rules of the governing racing body allows.

As stated above, I would skip buying this motor unless you plan on racing it only and feeding it RACE gas only.
And for that price you can get a pretty sweet B series build. Heck for 6 grand you can get a nice turbo b20 setup or crvtec setup.
anything over 13.5:1 compression in my experience is Expensive to drive ( aka race fuel price ) at 15:1 , that is definitly a drag motor.

that swap would be stupid fast, but for what it took to get those numbers you would be far better off looking into a k24/k20 frankenstein swap and staying on pump gas.

If you let us know what you have and what you plan on doing. Might be easier to help you.
aka:
-Street car with highwaypulls
-drag strip car
-track/lapping car
-no clue just want to be fast

Alright im gonna to take your guys advice and steer away from the engine. Everyone made a very good point in saying it was race gas and major maintence. As of right now i have a b18a motor in my ek hatch. I wanna buy a b18c and fully build it all motor but i cant really find a good thread on all motor builds on b18c. i am willing to spend 5500 just in parts to build it and have been talking to jeff evans (east coast builder for hondas) and wants two grand to build it so my grand total no more is 7500 and that is including the 2 grand build price tag.
If anyone can steer me towards a good all motor B18c thread i would love that.
Thankyou everyone for the extremely fast replys and saving alot of hassle which would of came about from this motor. greatly appreciate it guys.
Oh yeah DvDr street/highway puller

You also did not mention how much they were asking for the engine.
Fully built Honda B series engines are not hard to find.
Unless they are giving you this one for a super low price, I would skip it.
There are plenty of others available where you won't have to hurry your decision.

Yeah for that kind of money there are plenty of similar engines you can buy. No need to buy this one in a hurry.

you can get a spoon long block for that price:

http://www.einoxtuning.com/index.php...-balanced.html
Not advocating either shop, but you can certainly shop around for that type of coin.

You could buy a regular B18C (used) from Japan complete with the gearbox for about half of that. Then use the money you save over the built engine for a turbo.
The downside to the NA route is that it is really expensive and you don't get all that much horsepower (compared to a turbo). With the built NA engine usually all the extra power gained is up by the redline. For a race engine that is fine.
For the street, I think either a turbo or a supercharger is much better choice. The drive-ability is much better considering you don't have to be turning super high rpms to get the power.
