The reservoir is not a decoration. The cooling system needs the reservoir for coolant overflow when the engine is hot and coolant return when the engine is cold. Replace the reservoir to ensure proper functioning of the cooling system. An overheated engine is often destroyed and must be replaced.

pff, it's purely aesthetic, like the oil pan. Throw it out and enjoy the weight savings.
