rings on your pistons are bad, or you valve seals are bad.....headgasket would mostlikely blow all the time not just at specific spots in rpm band

Re: (EGEESIX)
one of friends had the problem and someone told that his rings were stuck to the piston due to carbon buildup, you could try getting some sort of cleaner of some sort.

doesn't always show up.....could be it is not reading correctly at that rpm....if you still have your one wire o2 then that maybe a cause

i just did a mini me and i was blowing out black smoke. i put a oil catch can between the valve cover and the intake and it doesn't smoke anymore and there is allot of oil in the can. i've only had the can on there for 4 days now. the can i sed is a 3/8 inline glass fuel filter with no filter element inside. it works great so far. and yes, i know it was black smoke and not blue.

Re: mini me problem (EG Civic)
the piston rings are probably the problem. If it happens at startup its the valve guide seals, but at a certain rpm its the rings.
