Default mini-me help

My Ek has approx. 238,000km's on it so I have decided that it might be time for a swap...What combo would work the best? I am pretty much set on getting a Z6 head (incl. v-tech solenoid, distributor, and nec bolts) b/c this dude will sell me one for $100canadian locally and garanteed to work. From there, I was planning a pnp and maybe redoing the valves.
Here's my prolem:
1) This head is obd1 whereas my ride is obd2...Given this info, will this pose a problem?
2) can I use a y8 ecu w/ a z6 head?
3) can I use a y7 or y8 intake manifold w/ the z6?
4) can I use a z6 tranny in an EK? Or will I have to get a y8 one?
5) Can I use my y7 axles w/ the z6 or y8 tranny?
If any of u could help, it would be much appreciated!

1. I don't think you can use a Y8 distributor with a Z6 head so you'll have to get an OBD-I conversion harness and run a P28 ECU.
2. No.
3. Yes.
4. Yes. All D-series trannies 92-00 are interchangable. Z6 is identical to the Y8 except for the shift forks.
5. Yes.

I'd personally recommend a Y8 head as staying OBD2 is easier.

Heh. As much as I wanna consider myself knowledgable on mini-me's...I really have no clue when it comes to OBD2 or OBD-O ****. There are many guys in the EF forum who know a LOT more than me.

thanks dude...Ok Just to recap...My bud is gonna be selling me a z6 head, which includes the z6 distributor, z6 vtech solenoid, z6 exhaust manifold, and all necessary hardware to do the job. However, he is not including a z6 ecu (which I am getting this weekend), or z6 intake manifold (which I can get off of ebay). so what u are saying is: All I need besides the 2 pts which my bud is not including, is an obd2 to obd1 conversion kit! If so, this conversion is gonna be very cheap! (~$200canadian+tranny)
cheers

1) should I use a z6 or y8 timing belt?
2) should I use a y8 or z6 head gasket?

cheers

both Y8. I'd search some more here and on d-series.org to see just how you go about wiring up a D16Z6 head on a y7 block...if I come across anything i'll let ya know.

Ok...here's another possibility...My buddy phones me up lastnight and tells me that he has a comepletely rebuilt pnp'd y8 head sitting in his garage w/ 0km's on it. He tells me that he doesn't need it b/c he is rocking a b16 and wants to get rid of it for $150canadian. The problem w/ this one is that there is no vtech solenoid, distributor, ecu, intake manifold, or exhaust manifold. I must say that it sounds pretty attractive to me but I have a few of questoins:

1) Can u use the y7 exhaust manifold w/ the y8 head?
2) Can u use the y7 intake manifold and injectors w/ the y8 head?
3) Can u use the z6 vtech solenoid w/ the y8 head? Is there a difference between obd1 solenoids and obd2 solenoids?
4) Can u use a z6 distributor w/ a y8 head? Is there a difference between obd1 distributors and obd2 distributors?

I am asking questions 3&4 b/c if they are interchangable, I will also buy the z6 head. Any help would be appreciated...
cheers

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. I believe so...not sure.
4. No. OBD2 and OBD1 dizzy's are COMPLETELY different. I believe a Y7 dizzy will work though...

I have put the 1999 Y8 head/intake on my 92 block, and a P28 (obd1) ecu worked fine with the Y8 head, so wouldn't a OBD2 ecu work fine w/ a Z6 head?

also the distributor harnesses are different on the obd1 and obd2 distributors, but the wire colors are the same, could you hardwire the distributor to work with your ecu? would take a while but if you are in a pinch for $$....
